A Guide to the Import Customs Declaration Procedures for Jade Raw Materials

According to the national standards for jewelry and jade, jade refers to mineral aggregates or amorphous bodies that are naturally produced in nature, possess beauty, rarity, durability, and can be processed into jewelry and handicrafts. It is distinguished from single-crystal gemstones or organic gemstones related to biological activities. According to the "Notes on Import and Export Tariff Items and Categories", jade raw materials should be classified under tariff code 7103.1000 - Unprocessed or simply sawn or roughly shaped gemstones (diamonds excluded) or semi-gemstones. 

With the advancement of science and technology and the deepening of human understanding of nature, the varieties of jade have become increasingly diverse. The national standards for jewelry and jade specify over 40 types of jade. Different types of jade vary greatly in terms of their physical and chemical properties such as hardness, luster, and texture, and their prices also differ significantly. According to the chemical composition and mineral composition types of jade, jade can be classified into the following main types:

According to the "2021 Customs Standard Declaration Catalogue and Interpretation of Import Commodities of the People's Republic of China", for the imported goods under tariff number 7103.1000, the following elements need to be declared for jade raw materials: 1. Name; 2. Type; 3. Degree of processing (unprocessed, simply sawn, roughly shaped); 4. State (not strung, not set); 5. Source (natural); 6. Grade; 7. Mineralogical name and English name; 8. Specifications; 9. Chemical composition; 10. For transactions on the Myanmar public auction, the jade number and quantity need to be declared; 11. Color.
