Notice on Preventing the Introduction of Ovine Foot-and-Mouth Disease from Eritrea into Our Country
On September 17, 2025, Eritrea reported to the World Organization for Animal Health that foot-and-mouth disease had occurred in Anseba Province of the country. To prevent the spread of the epidemic and protect the safety of our country's livestock industry and biological security, in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, the following announcement is hereby made:
1. It is prohibited to directly or indirectly import artiodactyl animals and their related products (products derived from unprocessed artiodactyl animals or those that may still transmit diseases even after processing) from Eritrea.
II. It is prohibited to send or bring inopposable-footed animals and their related products from Eritrea into the country. Upon discovery, they will be returned or destroyed without exception.
III. For the animal and plant waste,泔 water, etc. unloaded from the inbound transportation vehicles from Eritrea, they must all undergo pest control treatment under the supervision of the customs and shall not be discarded at will.
4. For the illegally entered hoofed animals and their related products from Eritrea that were intercepted by border inspection and other departments, they will all be destroyed under the supervision of the customs.
V. Anyone who violates the above regulations shall be dealt with by the customs in accordance with the relevant provisions of the "Customs Law of the People's Republic of China", the "Biosafety Law of the People's Republic of China", the "Entry-Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine Law of the People's Republic of China" and its implementing regulations.
VI. All levels of customs and all levels of agricultural and rural departments should, respectively, in accordance with relevant regulations such as the "Customs Law of the People's Republic of China", the "Biosafety Law of the People's Republic of China", the "Entry-Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine Law of the People's Republic of China", and the "Animal Epidemic Prevention Law of the People's Republic of China", closely cooperate and carry out quarantine, epidemic prevention and supervision work.
This announcement will come into effect as of the date of its release.
